
The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) hosted a delegation from the Wellcome Trust, with participation from Resolve to Save Lives, to review Ethiopia’s progress in implementing the 7-1-7 Framework and strengthening national public health systems.
During the visit, EPHI’s leadership shared the Institute’s key contributions in laboratory science, research, innovation, and Public Health Emergency Management, highlighting ongoing efforts to enhance early detection and response to public health threats.
EPHI’s Director General Dr. Mesay Hailu, after receiving the delegates along with Deputy Director Generals Dr. Melkamu Abte and Dr. Getachew Tollera; discussed strategic areas of collaboration in all strategic priorities of the Institute with delegates.
The delegation also toured EPHI’s key facilities, including the newly renovated Public Health Emergency Operations Center (PHEOC) and the Genomics and Bioinformatics unit, where experts demonstrated advancements in disease surveillance, data analysis, and genomic sequencing.
Presentations showcased the the successful integration of the 7-1-7 framework into public health emergency workforce training, routine monitoring and evaluation, outbreak investigations, and project implementation.
The visit also provided an opportunity to deliberate on priority areas of collaboration and reaffirm commitments to strengthening partnerships to build Ethiopia’s health security capacity.
